Soho House Group have over 70,000 members, a majority of whom pay £1,650+ per year to access all 23 of their clubs. Their mission…to create a comfortable home from home for their members.
And it works. As a member I can turn up at any time to any of their clubs, show my membership card and I’m in. Not only that, SH’s interiors are homely, comfortable and welcoming and when visiting their clubs you recognise the familiarity of that Soho House signature look and feel. Mission accomplished, well done Nick Jones.
But if you’re not a “creative soul” and don’t meet their member criteria or if you’d prefer a wider variety in terms of locations, facilities and ambience, what are your options? And bear with me here, I’m gearing up to the solution.
1 – Join a Concierge Company.
Basically, pay c. $2,000 per year for a phone number, WhatsApp group or individual that you can make requests to on an ad hoc basis. Only flaw is that they can’t guarantee you access to your preferred private member’s club and you have to wait for them to respond to and action requests. And you may have to pay an access fee each time from which they take a little commission for making the booking on your behalf.
2 – Just keep living as you do.
Let’s be honest, there are plenty of bars and decent restaurants in every city in the world, and yes, you might have to rub shoulders with Joe Public or plan ahead and book a table but there are some quality options out there for entertaining friends or clients. One area you might miss out on is a good quality venue for business meetings over a coffee…Pret doesn’t always cut it.
3 – Join an independent Private Member’s Club.
There are thousands of them, and a great majority of them have what they call “Reciprocals”. What this means is that by being a member of their club you are granted access to a certain number of other independent clubs for a limited number of visits in a year, and more often than not, they have more reciprocals than Soho House have houses…result. To gain access to reciprocals you are required to contact your membership team who will then provide a letter of introduction, so it’s a little like having your own concierge. This nicely brings us to the ultimate solution….
4 – Join an independent Private Member’s Club & OtherClub.
So this is option 3 only with OtherClub added. OtherClub is an online community and collection of the world’s most exclusive independent private member’s clubs, health clubs and luxury hotel facilities. To qualify for OtherClub you have to be a member of a participating member’s club and then through our technology you can discover private member’s clubs, high-end gyms and exclusive offers near you and book your visit in real time – a little like showing up at Soho House and walking in. Only difference – you have a wider variety and more locations. Sold.
Here’s a little teaser…
